On this page we have assembled a short list of those who died due to the flood crisis and have posted as many images as we have gathered from the press. Please note that these figures are tentative since many deaths are Leptospirosis suspected. Some of the early deaths may have been thus, but not recognised that way.

As of February 10, 2004, the count is 28* which breaks down as follows:

18 from Leptospirosis
4 from drowning including a 3 yr-old child
3 from gastroenteritis
1 from haemoptysis (spitting of blood while coughing)
2 (or 3)from dengue fever

*Our figures using quotes from the Ministry of Heath and the Media here number 29 although the total death is truly 28 as of Feb 10, 2005. This highlights the complication in putting this information together given the many unknowns in the heath and media reports.

As of February 11, 2004, the count is 33* which breaks down as follows according to the Ministry of Health: 11th announced that there were 33 flood related deaths, 7 of these from drowning, 3 from dehydration, 2 from delayed medical care and 22 Leptospirosis cases being investigated. On February 2, a child died of Leptospirosis but we have no details. One person was killed in Sophia when he tried to prevent a Black relief water tank from being stolen. He was shot. His name, rightfully, should be accounted.
