There are numerous other incidents that are not reported by the newsmedia,
or are not reported by the victims because of lackadaisal police (non)response,
or - like rape - are not reported because they are too personal.


 

 


Jul 26:

B. M. Enterprise Inc., a premier fishing company at Houston, E B Demerara, is robbed by armed bandits who overpowered 6 guards there. Loss: $1.8 millions of payroll cash

Jul 25:

Myrthleen Lee-Bing (61), a businesswoman of John Street, Lodge, is bound and gagged (a pillowcase is stuffed in her mouth), and robbed by bandits who took her car, $120,000 in cash, a microwave, VCR, and jewelry.

Jul 25:

Goorudat Persaud, of Annadale, is shot in the leg by bandits who invaded her home. Villagers responded causing the bandits to flee, except one who was apprehended.

Jul 25:

Mahandai ("sheila") (67), also of Annandale, is beaten/robbed by the same group of fleeing bandits. They carried off $450,000 in jewelry and cash from the pensioner.

Jul 24:

Two armed men robbed passengers in a minibus travelling along the East Coast Demerara.

Orin Ruthrford, of Enmore, owner of a store, is robbed by gunmen.
Jul 23:
Future Gill Boutique, in G/town, is robbed by bandits who carted off between $8-10 millions in goods in goods, during bright daylight (3 pm).

Jul 22:

Ace Shopping Centre, in Annandale, is attacked by three armed men.

Rose Hall Town Siege:


Ramphal Pardat (52), of Ghanpat Street, Rose Hall Town, Outar Kissoon (46), of Number 52 Village, Corentyne, are both killed by gunmen in siege of Rose Hall Town police outpost. A lance corporal (Williams) is also shot, but survived. This is the second direct attack on a police building. (Deaths #24 and 25) (Police deaths #7 and 8).

Balram Khandai (18), PYO member-observer of the concluded PPP 27th Congress, is also shot and killed as the vehicle he was in, passed by the area under gunfire. (Death # 23).

Mohan Latchman: died due to a heart attack as the gunmen sprayed houses and businesses with bullets, during the siege. (Death # 22).

Royden Wong (17), is shot in his leg as he peeped outside as the bandits passed.

Businesses, bank branches attacked, security guards stripped of weapons; Dai Hong Feng, proprietor of a Chinese restaurant near the police outpost, is robbed of $145,000. Mohammed Shamsudeen Afiz of Happy Shopping Centre, is robbed of $250,000, and his brother/sister-in-law (Sheik and hema Hussain), residing in the same yard, are beaten and robbed. They are hospitalized. Security guards at the NBIC and GNCB banks, and Fogarty's Store, had their weapons seized.

Jul 21:

Loki Narine (50) and his wife, Mrs Druphattie Narine, owners of a goods shop at Triumph, ECD, are beaten and robbed at gunpoint by three armed men. Mr Narine had to seek medical attention for a gash on his head.

Jul 20:

Security guards Monica Wills (51), sustained two gunshot wounds to her abdomen, Terrence Murray (42), is shot in the neck, and Rudolph Moonsammy (at Demerara bank) is shot below his right knee, by bandits who fired on them at the Citizens and Demerara Banks, on Camp Street.

Jul 18:

Baksh Jewelery Establishment on camp Street, G/town, is attacked by gunmen. Loss: $65,000.

Jul 15:

OYAMA Baptiste, 24, son of the late Albouystown businessman Errol 'Taps' Butcher, is gunned down. His father was also shot on March 10, and died two days after. His brother was also shot by gunmen (on May 5), but managed to survive. (Death # 21)

Jul 15:

Ken's Variety Store, owned by Latchman Mohan, on Camp Street, is broken into and robbed of $4 million in stock and $400,000 is cash in the early morning hours. It is believed that as many as 15 robbers looted the store.

Jul 13:

Four money changers on Londgren and America street are held up by armed bandits carrying Ak-47s, and robbed of one million dollars.

Jul 12:

Alfred Thorne, his wife, Ovis St Clair, and 3-yr-old son, Amar Thorne, of North Sophia, are beaten, terrorized, and robbed by two armed bandits. All members of the family are gagged, tied up, and beaten including the baby whose head was also smashed against a wall in an attempt to keep him quiet. A shot fired at Ms. St. Clair fortunately missed her. Loss: $60,000, a cell phone, etc.
Jul 11:
Adrian London, cop, is gunned down execution style when gunmen opened fire on him not far from the National Cultural Center. (Death #20) (Police death #6)
Jul 11:
Two restaurants (one being Atlantic Restaurant), a gas station, and a hotel, all on Sheriff Street, are attacked by gun-totting bandits-but all resulted in minimal loss of cash, etc.

Jul 9:

Carlyle Wickham (40), of Triumph, a security guard for the driver/sales rep, had gone with 2 other colleagues to sell goods for Edward B. Beharry and Company Ltd., when he is shot to death as they are attacked by armed bandits. (Death #19)

Jul 8:

Haymant and Michelle Narine, and their family of Belmonte, Mahaica, are terrorized by four armed men pretending to be police on a visit to their business premise. They beat Mr. Narine and then threatened to kill his 11-yr-old daughter, Rookmini. Loss: Undisclosed amount
Jul 7:
Mohan Singh, a guard who watches speedboat is killed in a struggle with one of seven armed bandits who landed on Leguan Island, and attempted to steal boat engines. (Death #18)
Jul 4:
A schoolteacher at the St. Pius Primary School, is held up by a man with a handgn, and robbed right in the school.

Racial Attacks:

Ann Latchman and David Persaud of Bladen Hall are attacked, chopped, and beaten in separate racial attacks by Buxtonians, in the aftermath of the July 3 invasion of the Presidential Complex. Ms. Latchman's home is invaded by a Buxtonian man (Quincy Blair) who chopped her on the head. Mr. Persaud is beaten, chopped, and stomped upon by a group of Buxtonians in retaliation for arrest of Mr. Blair by the police. Others were also beaten and/or chopped, including one "Baldeo," whose horse was also chopped at its neck.

Jul 4-5:


On 7/4 Humphrey Machinery Sales store on Holmes Street, Tiger Bay, is attacked by a bandit (Accra) who is shot and killed by a licensed firearm holder who was held up.

The following day, its owner, Mr. Vincent Leigh, is pelted by "missiles," leaving him hospitalized with a fractured skull.

Ganase Singh (78), retired headmaster and his niece, Chandra Singh, are beaten/terrorized by armed men who robbed their store in lodge, G/town. Loss: $100,000 in local and foreign currency, and a gun.
