Constable Rawle Thomas is shot during an ambush on a police patrol in Wismar by

Claudette Ne-Quan (60), is murdered by a group (at least 15) of heavily armed
bandits who attacked her family property/sawmill on Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo,
coming in from the Ocean. Her husband, Hilton (65), a former PNC MP turned PPP
member, sustained gunshot wounds to his left side, abdomen and his left leg. Loss:
$400,000 in cash, a 12-guage shotgun, 1 9mm and 1 .32 pistol. On their escape
route, the bandits also stopped and stole a boat engine worth $500,000 from Deonarine

Suresh and Monica Bhagwandin, and family, of Hope, East Bank Demerara, are attacked
by five armed bandits who beat them, demanding cash, and finally retreating after
the couple's four little children pleaded with the bandits to spare their parents'
lives. The youngest two siblings, ages 7 and 8, kneeled and begged after the bandits
said they were going to shoot their father. | |

Anne Sookwa, a housewife residing in Garnett Street, G/town, is beaten up in a
robbery attack by two men, who claimed to be interested in a vehicle her husband
advertised for sale. They tried to tie her up but she managed to break free. |

Monica (49) and Jerome Rodrigues (69), a couple who own a small grocery store
in Beterverwagting (BV), ECD, are attacked by 4 bandits, including one armed with
a gun. Ms. Rodrigues, the mother of 4 (and foster mother of 2) is taken into
a room, tied on a bed, beaten, gagged, and strangled. She, apparently, suffocated
to death. Her husband is beaten, and chopped at least once. (Death

Andy Atwell, policeman, dies during an attack on Alberttown Police Station in
Alberttown, G/Town. The attack is carried out at 10 pm by 2 carloads of bandits.

patrol at Coldingen, East Coast Demerara, on Saturday, 5/25. Four policemen were
in a vehicle, which was fired upon by gunmen. All four were shot and injured.

four armed men. One dies (by drowning) when they tried to flee via the Demerara

(see May 11 below), are attacked by bandits in less than 2 weeks after the double
murder, during which his wife is beaten. Loss: 2 million. |

Dhanpaul Oudit, business proprietor at Garnettt Street, Kitty, is attacked by
three bandits. He manages to push his wife out the room and escape himself, but
a business acquanitance there at the time, was robbed of his scooter and money.
This scooter was used by the three in the murder of Chetram Etwaroo on May 16,

Sita Persaud (aka Mahadai Magoo) and Ramdeo Persaud, proprietors of business residing
at Peter's Street, Annandale, are gunned down execution style by a gang of 5.
They are taken into their bedroom, made to lie down, and each shot three times
while their 3 children, youngest being 11, were downstairs. (Deaths

Mark Sancho, of Bent Street, Worthmanville, is shot and killed during a drive-by
shooting on Mandela Ave, G/town. Two of his colleagues are also shot, but they
managed to survive. This, apparently, has been part of a gang rivalry. (Death

the head and hands by 3 bandits armed with cutlasses. |

Patrick and Sita Seebarran, owners of business (Patsan Trading Services) at Stone
Ave, C/ville, G/town, are beaten by group of 5 bandits (aided by some 3 other
heavily armed men). The security guards (Alvin Weeks and Mark Barlow) stationed
at his home at the time are shot and wounded. Loss: US$23,000 and $40,000. |

Brian Chester (37) and Dionne Glasgow, of Brush Dam, Friendship, East Coast Demerara,
are shot and injured by 2 armed men, believed to be part of the "gang of
5." Brian Chester was shot in his right leg and head and his reputed wife
in her right knee. They men sprayed the bottom flat of their house with bullets. |

are attacked and robbed of $1.8m in cash, a .32 pistol, and a cell phone by armed
bandits. Sara Philips is kidnapped but is fortunately found alive in C Field,
Sophia, where she was dropped of the same day. | |

Two occupants in a car managed to escape unharmed when their car is "riddled"
with bullets at Go-Slow Ave in Tucville, G/town. The shooters also escaped. |

Frank Saywack (55), of Campbell Avenue, G/town, is robbed by bandits in his home
of $300,000, US$320, and some other items. This is the second time in 1 year that
his home is robbed; his wife and daughter were also robbed on April 24, 2001. |

Harry Kooseram (Sgt.), a police officer, is gunned down (shot at least 5 times)
as he leaves home for work. His assailant was waiting for him with a pistol concealed
in a newspaper. This death, apparently, is a repay for the death of Buxtonian,
Shaka Blair, who was shot and killed by police in Buxton earlier this April. (Death

They took a computer, pair of binoculars, cameras, and also hijacked their car.

drive-by, shooting as he stood outside his business in G/town. He died the next

Vivikenand and Jane Parasram, Kampta Persaud, and Parasrams' staff members. The
5 bandits who escaped on Mashramani (Feb 23) make their first major robbery on
the business of the Parasrams in Annandale, ECD. Vivikenand is shot at, but the
bullet only grazed him. His wife is terrorized, as are his staff members. One
customer, Mr. Kampta Persaud, is beaten with a gun butt. |

stabbed by one of 5 prisoners who "escaped". (Death

Roxanne Winfield, another security guard, is shot in the face and suffered severe

the family of $150,000 in cash, as well as 2 cell phones and other items. Two
gunshots were fired but fortunately, no one was injured. |

Kahindie Lee, Aston Williams, and family: Campbellville, G/town. Three armed bandits
robbed and "terrorized" the family on New Year's Day and then escaped
in a waiting taxi. The family were relaxing after hosting a party hours before
when they were attacked. One of the bandits shot his foot accidentally while wrestling
with Christine Vasconcellos, a cousin of Ms. Lee. Loss: $480, 000 in cash and
jewelry. | |

Deonarine Sahadeo: Caneville, Grove, East Bank Demerara. The 62-year-old pensioner
is killed after bandits threw a spear through his window (and fired 2 shots),
hitting him in his chest as he came to investigate noises outside his small home.
