through the roof and robbed the family of $200,000 in cash and jewelery.
When the terrorised family of 6
adults and 2 children retreated to a room secured by a
door with grillwork, the bandits demanded that they open up, and eventually,
came down via roof. Upon noticing that the daughter, Suzie
Nazim was on a cell phone to call the police, the bandits shot at
her. Fortunately, she was missed. The father was beaten. |

Note: the bandits, it appeared, also attacked
and robbed a woman who had returnedf rom the wake kept for Kassim
3 days after. She managed to escape when they entered her yard.] |

reports, a policeman was nearby, who, after alerted, still went away.
Further, when a report was made to the police
at Timehri, they came, but only after stopping off at a barbeque first.

in whose hired car Montague was traveling. Two gold chains , a watch,
and $57,000 taken. Montague was caught later. Montague had also robbed
Vishaul Persaud (on Sept 7) of agold chain and a watch valued at $92,000,
using approached Persaud on Hadfield Streand used a knife. |

Coast Dem. Operator of a small time home business, they are attacked
by men with cutlasses who broke into their home. Mr.
Ramdhan is chopped several times on the faceand shoulder.

died at the Georgetown Public
Hospital the following day after being shot
in the stomach in the vicinity of Liliendaal, East Coast
Demerara (ECD). Shortly after midnight, his car stalled; he and a
female companion are accosted by three masked men. Dr. Pluck was once
an advisor for Forbes Burnham. |

Melville, Wakenaam, Essequibo. Senior citizen who lived alone and
operated a small business, is brutally murdered. She was sexually
assaulted (metal instrument inserted into her vagina), beaten, and

Garvin France and Radica Boodram: Field
Six, Sophia. Poor, smalltime cakeshop owner, Mr. France is
shot
to death; one bullet in his mouth, one
in his stomach, and one in his foot.
His
terrified wife is forced to hand over $60,000 (all they have). Mr.
France, who was only 25, leaves behind his 23-year-old wife, and two
children, one 4-year-old, and one 4-month old. |

Same armed bandits that attacked the Singhs beat and terrorized the
Brijlalls. Kalowattie (25) who is 6
months pregnant, is stripped and beaten. Her
husband Seepaul, suffered
a gaping wound on the head after
being hit with gun butt. His mother, Deowattie, is also beaten; she
suffered a broken arm.
Even the Brijlall's 8-year old daughter, Rajkumarie,
has a gun placed at her throat as
she is made to hand over her earrings. Total loss from both families:
$200,000 in cash and jewelry. |

Rajdai is shot in the stomach
after attempting to pull off gunman's mask.
Hospitalized, she died
on September 1. Her husband, Roopnarine, is
severely beaten by the bandits, suffered
a fractured jaw,
is hospitalized. The same armed bandits proceeded to another house
next-door, which is the relatives of the Singhs. (See below). |

Sisters who operate a liquor store are attacked my 5 men armed with
shotguns and knives. They are beaten
on their heads with gun butts. Both
are hospitalized. Allegedly one gunman aimed and pulled a trigger
twice at Ina, but the gun failed. Taken: a large amount of money.[Villagers
saw when the criminals entered. In
a rare case, one criminal is chopped to death by members of the community
policing group as he failed to scale the fence in an effort to escape.] |

is beaten severely with a big stick as demands by bandits are made.
One bandit grabbed the woman's infant and threw him on the chair,
threatening to shoot the child if a key for a particular safe is not
handed over. Taken: shotgun, at least $3 million in raw gold, silver,
and money. |

Nankissoon Ramroop, and Dennis Persaud: Fishermen at
Montrose, ECD, terrorized by armed bandits who took off with their
speed boat (used, according to the police, to transport them to Rampoor,
Berbice, where they carried out the attack on the goldsmith's residence).
One (N. Mohammed) is stabbed and
all are doused with gasoline by bandits who threatened to light them
afire. The boat is later recovered. |

friends attacked, beaten, and robbed by gunmen during birthday celebration.
One gunman allegedly snatched her baby and
"flung the child into a chair." Then he held a gun to the
three-months-old baby while demanding cash. Another threatens
to rape her if she does not give them cash. Bhola is beaten
with a knife as such demands are made. $30,000 taken. |

gunman threatens to rape the family's
11-year-old daughter if

the mother) to strip and further threatened
to shoot the daughter." $320,000 in
cash and $40,000 in jewelry taken. |

was watching TV when the bandits entered, began screaming. Family

Ester, Rajwantee Budram, and family: Elderly matriarch, her two daughters, and daughter-in-law,
with three children, one only one year old, are attacked and "brutalized"
by five armed bandits in Fyrish, Lower Corentyne. The
old woman and one of her daughters is beaten
about the head. She suffered severe
trauma and cannot speak 24 hours after.
This is a second attack on the family; in 1996, Ester's son
was badly beaten. Current loss; $500,000 in cash and jewelry.

the press three days after occurring.)

Rookmin Rajkumar-King: Her family is terrorized for 2 hours after gunmen broke into her business. Loss: $1
million in goods and money. This is the fourth robbery on her place
in two years. In 1999, her son
was shot and killed by gunmen. Her application for a firearm was unsuccessful.

is burnt down. The Rice Producer's Association (RPA)

building) in the April , it is associated with the rice industry,
which is associated with Indians.
